Purity Rings: The Real Deal with Having One
There is no better way to express your vow or commitment for purity than with having or wearing purity rings. Because of popular young celebrities like the Jonas Brothers sporting and making statements with their rings, more and more young people are getting into the bandwagon. A good majority of teenagers and young adults are now making a vow to remain pure by showcasing their rings.
These rings are also known as chastity rings or promise rings. Most of the time, they are embellished with words like “True Love Waits,” or “One Life One Love,” constantly serving as a reminder to the wearer about his or her commitment to chastity and waiting for the right one. This practice was originally started during the 1990’s and was a way to discourage premarital sex among young people especially. Today, decades after the movement was first started, purity rings are still popular.
Chastity rings are usually worn on the ring finger of the left hand by a person who has decided to commit to purity until marriage. Other times, they are worn as necklaces around the neck. Despite the influence of movies and television, the concept of chastity is slowly gaining popularity again. Teens and kids who want to showcase their individuality and commit to their faith or simply just decided to remain celibate until marriage will find having purity rings as a good way to get their message across. This will separate them from their peers who freely give into sex without much thought of the possible consequences.
Designed for both men and women, purity rings have become a sort of ceremonial rite on their own. Although the term “purity ring” usually brings to mind abstinence from sex, there are other kinds of purity rings.
People who want to signify their “second virginity,” also wear promise or purity rings. People who do this are ones who have indulged in sexual activity at a young age, but have regretted it. Now, they are trying to regain control and promise to remain celibate until they find the right one. They might not be able to change what they have done in the past, but they can certainly pick up the pieces and start again.
Other types of promise rings usually worn by people are rings that promise abstinence from alcohol or drugs. People who have suffered from drug abuse and alcohol abuse and are looking to change their lives, wear these rings to mark their commitment to sobriety and being drug free. This isn’t limited to alcohol and drugs. Anything that a person is addicted and feels that they have to get over their addiction can use these rings for strength and motivation; addiction to gambling, or food, or other sexual addictions can also be the motivation behind it.
Purity rings have definitely made a pronounced return these past few years. No matter what reason the person has for wearing such rings, it is still a good thing. Assuming that the intentions are good and pure, wearing purity rings are the best way to signify that you have overcome and still fighting to overcome your addictions. It is the best way to conquer hurdles in today’s life.
