Algerian Love Knot - The Bond Girl Necklace From Casino Royale

The Algerian Love Knot worn by Eva Green in Casino Royale was to prove to be a surprise hit amongst Bond fans and would be Bond girls when the film was released in 2006. And when 007 is seen carrying the necklace with him as a keepsake in Quantum of Solace, that demand was re-ignited.

However, while many of us would like to own the real thing, the truth is that the cost is simply too much for the majority of us, especially anyone trying to cut back thanks to the state of the economy.

Luckily help is at hand with a sterling silver version of the Algerian Love Knot available for those budget Bonds looking for the ultimate present for their Bond girl.

The original Algerian Love Knot that featured in Casino Royale, and worn by Eva Green’s character, Vesper Lynd, was designed especially for the film. The Bond producers approached Sophie Harley to design the necklace for them and the beautiful design consists of three interlinked silver tubes embellished with a design picked out in gold.

The result is simply spectacular and while it seems that there is no such thing as an Algerian Love Knot in reality, the term has entered popular culture - especially when it comes to all things Bond. Like other fans, fans of James Bond are often avid collectors and will buy all kinds of merchandise related to the films.

That seems to be particularly true of the last two films, with collectors clamouring after the Algerian love knot necklace, Tom Ford sunglasses and suits and various other collectibles.

The budget Algerian Love Knot was inspired by the Sophie Harley original and was not designed by her. In place of the three interlinked silver tubes it is made from one piece of sterling silver made to look as if it is separate pieces and not the same quality at all.

But at a fraction of the price, it is far more affordable and at least has opened up the possibility for wider ownership of a stunning piece of jewelry. And who knows - maybe when some of the budget Bonds have recovered from the recession they’ll buy their Bond girls the original Sophie Harley design.
